- The Vatican has not yet received a formal response from the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) to a proposal for reconciliation that the Holy See made in June, according to reporter Andrea Tornielli of La Stampa.
- In July, after a general chapter meeting, SSPX leaders said that they would not accept the latest Vatican offer. The leaders of the traditionalist group gave strong indications that they hoped to continue talks with the Vatican, however.
