Stop Your Worrying And Start Your Praying

I keep reading blog posts... posts and comments on Facebook...tweets on twitter....and I have never seen so many worried, concerned and scared people regarding a new Pope for the Catholic Church.

They are even more worried and afraid regarding a new Pope for the Church than they were after Pope Blessed John Paul II passed away back in 2005.

Yes, I know change is hard for some people. Yes, I am sure we are all concerned about what kind of leader we are going to get. One who is more orthodox....one more "open to change"....an outgoing "people's Pope"....a shy, reserved scholarly Pope.

Why do I feel like I am one of the very few, who is not afraid?

First of all, people need to remember these words of Christ, and take them to heart:

"And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18).

"You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last" (John 15:16).

"When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. He saith to him again: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep" (John 21:15-17).

Therefore, we can know that Our Lord will provide for His Church, a leader to feed His sheep, a leader who will bear fruit that will last, and a leader who will be the rock of His Church.

All we need to do, should have been doing, and can do is to pray for the Church...for Pope Benedict XVI...for our new Holy Father....and for the guidance of the College of Cardinals by the Holy Spirit.

So stop wringing your hands and get on your knees.

Trust in God!

CARDINAL SODANO EXPRESSES COLLEGE OF CARDINALS' NEARNESS TO POPE

Vatican City, 11 February 2013 (VIS) - Cardinal Angelo Sodano, dean of the College of Cardinals, on hearing the news of the Pope's resignation from the Petrine ministry, expressed his nearness, and that of all the cardinals, to Benedict XVI.

"We have heard you," he said, "with a sense of loss and almost disbelief. In your words we see the great affection that you have always had for God's Holy Church, for this Church that you have loved so much. Now, let me say, on behalf of this apostolic cenacle?the College of Cardinals?on behalf of your beloved collaborators, allow me to say that we are closer than ever to you, as we have been during these almost eight luminous years of your pontificate. On 19 April 2005, if I remember correctly, at the end of the conclave I asked ? 'Do you accept your canonical election as Supreme Pontiff?' And you did not hesitate, although moved with emotion, to answer that you accepted, trusting in the Lord's grace and the maternal intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church. Like Mary on that day she gave her 'yes', and your luminous pontificate began, following in the wake of continuity, in that continuity with your 265 predecessors in the Chair of Peter, over two thousand years of history from the Apostle Peter, the humble Galilean fisherman, to the great popes of the last century from St. Pius X to Blessed John Paul II."

"Holy Father, before 28 February, the day that, as you have said, you wish to place the word 'end' to your pontifical service, conducted with so much love and so humbly, before 28 February, we will be able to better express our feelings. So too will the many pastors and faithful throughout the world, so too all those of good will together with the authorities of many countries. ? Also, still this month, we will have the joy of listening to your voice as pastor: Ash Wednesday, Thursday with the clergy of Rome, in the Sunday Angelus, and the Wednesday general audiences, we will still have many occasions to hear your paternal voice. ? Your mission, however, will continue. You have said that you will always be near us with your witness and your prayer. Of course, the stars always continue to shine and so will the star of your pontificate always shine among us. We are near to you, Holy Father, and we ask you to bless us."

THE POPE'S FIRST THREE ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ON TWITTER

Vatican City, 13 December 2012 (VIS) - @Pontifex, Pope Benedict XVI's Twitter account, attracted over a million and a half followers on its first day of existence. The Pope, after his first tweet at the end of the usual Wednesday general audience, responded during the course of the day to three questions posed by members of the public from three different continents. The first was: "How can we celebrate the Year of Faith better in our daily lives?". The Holy Father's answer was "By speaking with Jesus in prayer, listening to what he tells you in the Gospel and looking for him in those in need".

Shortly afterwards a second question was added: "How can faith in Jesus be lived in a world without hope?". "We can be certain that a believer is never alone. God is the solid rock upon which we build our lives and his love is always faithful", responded Benedict XVI.

The final tweet, posted around 6 p.m., was: "Offer everything you do to the Lord, ask his help in all the circumstances of daily life and remember that he is always beside you", in response to: "Any suggestions on how to be more prayerful when we are so busy with the demands of work, families and the world?"

THE POPE ON TWITTER

VOICE OF UNITY AND LEADERSHIP FOR THE CHURCH

Vatican City, 3 December 2012 (VIS) - A press conference was held this morning in the Holy See Press Office to explain the presence of the Pope on Twitter and to provide additional information on the use of the new media in the Vatican.

The conference was presented by Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Msgr. Paul Tighe, secretary of the same dicastery, Fr. Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office, Vatican Radio and the Vatican Television Centre, Professor Gian Maria Vian, editor of 'L'Osservatore Romano' and Greg Burke, media advisor to the Secretariat of State. Claire Diaz-Ortiz, Twitter's director of Social Innovation, was also present.

Given below are extracts from the English-language Note explaining the presence of the Holy Father on Twitter:

"The Pope's presence on Twitter is a concrete expression of his conviction that the Church must be present in the digital arena. ... The Pope's presence on Twitter can be seen as the 'tip of the iceberg' that is the Church's presence in the world of new media. The Church is already richly present in this environment – there exist a whole range of initiatives from the official websites of various institutions and communities to the personal sites, blogs and micro-blogs of public church figures and of individual believers. The Pope's presence on Twitter is ultimately an endorsement of the efforts of these 'early adapters' to ensure that the Good News of Jesus Christ and the teaching of his Church is permeating the forum of exchange and dialogue that is being created by social media. His presence is intended to be an encouragement to all Church institutions and people of faith to be attentive to develop an appropriate profile for themselves and their convictions in the 'digital continent'. The Pope's tweets will be available to believers and non-believers to share, discuss and to encourage dialogue. It is hoped that the Pope's short messages, and the fuller messages that they seek to encapsulate, will give rise to questions for people from different countries, languages and cultures".

"Part of the challenge for the Church in the area of new media is to establish a networked or capillary presence that can effectively engage the debates, discussions and dialogues that are facilitated by social media and that invite direct, personal and timely responses of a type that are not so easily achieved by centralized institutions. Moreover, such a networked or capillary structure reflects the truth of the Church as a community of communities which is alive both universally and locally. The Pope's presence on Twitter will represent his voice as a voice of unity and leadership for the Church but it will also be a powerful invitation to all believers to express their 'voices', to engage their 'followers' and 'friends' and to share with them the hope of the Gospel that speaks of God’s unconditional love for all men and women".

"In addition to the direct engagement with the questions, debates and discussions of people that is facilitated by new media, the Church recognizes the importance of new media as an environment that allows to teach the truth that the Lord has passed to His Church, to listen to others, to learn about their cares and concerns, to understand who they are and for what they are searching. ... It is for this reason that it has been decided to launch the Pope's Twitter channel with a formal question and answer format. This launch is also an indication of the importance that the Church gives to listening and is a warranty of its ongoing attentiveness to the conversations, commentaries and trends that express so spontaneously and insistently the preoccupations and hopes of people".

The first tweets from the Pope's handle on Twitter will be given on 12 December, Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Initially tweets will be published with the Wednesday general audiences, although they may subsequently become more frequent. The first tweets, on 12 December, will respond to questions put to the Pope on matters of faith. The public can send questions between now and 12 December in the languages listed below. The official Papal handle is @pontifex.

In addition to English, tweets will also be published in the following languages:

Spanish @pontifex_es

Italian @pontifex_it

Portuguese @pontifex_pt

German @pontifex_de

Polish @pontifex_pl

Arabic @pontifex_ar

French @pontifex_fr

Other languages may be added in the future. Further information can be obtained at http://blog.twitter.com/

Saint Anne Novena -- Day Eight

Today is day eight of the Saint Anne Novena. You may join with us, and the thousands of other faithful from around the world in praying this novena at Pray More Novena's. You can go here to see the prayer intentions of those joining in praying this novena.

Below is the prayer for today:

Day 8 - Saint Anne Novena Prayers

Glorious St. Anne, filled with compassion for those who invoke you, with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I kneel at your feet and humbly beg you to take my present need under your special protection...

(State your intention here.)

Vouchsafe to recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace to one day meet God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the angels and saints praising Him through all eternity.

Amen

Remember, O Saint Anne, you whose name signifies grace and mercy, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, and sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, good, and kind mother; I take refuge at your feet, burdened with the weight of my sins. O holy mother of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, despise not my petition…

(State your intention here.)

…but hear me and grant my prayer.

Amen.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be to the Father…

Pray for us, Saint Anne!

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Skewed Priorities?

I have noticed something that is repeated over and over again in our society. That something is, people get more upset and more outraged over harm done to an animal, than they do over harm done to another human being.

Let there be a news item in your local newspaper, a shared news story on Facebook or twitter about an animal...particularly dogs or cats...being injured or killed through abuse, wanton neglect, or callous indifference, and there will be tons of letters to the editor...hundreds of comments on Facebook ...hundreds of re-tweets on twitter...all expressing outrage over the harm done to an animal, and all accompanied by demands that the full extent of the law be applied in dealing with the perpetrators of these acts.

For example, a post on Facebook linked to a story about a Newark, New Jersey woman who is charged with second degree burglary and third degree animal cruelty for killing a small dog by throwing it into oncoming traffic. Out of the more than 70 comments condemning this woman, only one said that they get upset over someone hurting children or animals.

Only one...not two, three or more....just one! Sadly, that seems to be the mindset of people in today’s society. They either consider an animals life as equal to, or superior to the life of a human being.

A few years ago, there was a young lady... just weeks away from her high school graduation...who was killed in a car accident by being thrown from the car she was riding in when it struck a tree. She and her boyfriend who was driving, had been leaving a party where alcohol had been served to them by an off duty law enforcement officer, even though both were under the legal age to consume alcohol.

At the request of the young lady's family, no charges were brought against the off duty officer, or the young driver of the car.

There was not one single letter to the editor in protest of this decision. Yet just a few weeks later, there appeared a story about a dog (that somehow survived) being doused with a flammable liquid and then set on fire. The letters of protest and outrage over this act appeared on the letters to the editor page for almost 3 weeks.

Chief
Let me make it perfectly clear that I love all of God's creatures. We had both dogs and cats growing up, and I have owned dogs in my adult life as well. My last dog was a German Shepherd Dog named “Chief” and he was the best dog I ever owned. So I am against animal abuse. Period.

In absolutely no circumstances however, would I place an animals life above that of any human for any reason.

I would just like to see the same outrage over the life of a human being, and particularly, that same level of outrage over children killed through abuse, wanton neglect, callous indifference, or murdered through the heinous act of abortion.

Where is that outrage and why is it not being expressed? Are we keeping it to ourselves out of fear of being ostracized? Are we afraid we will offend someone? Do we not care for the unborn as much as we do for Fido or Muffin? I am beginning to believe Fido and Muffin are more important to far too many of us than are Jack and Jill or that unnamed child in the womb, who's chance at life ended today.

Here are some quotations from the famous and not so famous to ponder:

You shall not kill.”
-- Exodus 20: 13

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life . . .”
-- Deuteronomy 30:19

Yet thou art he who took me from the womb; thou didst keep me safe upon my mother's breasts. Upon thee was I cast from my birth, and since my mother bore me thou hast been my God.”
-- Psalms 22: 9-10

Know that the LORD is God! It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”
-- Psalms 100: 3

For thou didst form my inward parts, thou didst knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise thee, for thou art fearful and wonderful. Wonderful are thy works! Thou knowest me right well; my frame was not hidden from thee, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. Thy eyes beheld my unformed substance; in thy book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
-- Psalm 139: 13-16

God’s love does not distinguish between the infant in the mother’s womb or the child or the youth or the adult or the older person. In each one God sees His image and likeness. Human life is a manifestation of God and His glory.”
-- Pope Benedict XVI

That is the dignity of America, the reason she exists, the condition of her survival, yes, the ultimate test of her greatness: to respect every human person, especially the weak and most defenseless ones, those as yet unborn.”
Pope Blessed John Paul II

It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.”
-- Blessed Mother Teresa

Nothing we do to defend the human person, no matter how small, is ever unfruitful or forgotten. Our actions touch other lives and move other hearts in ways we can never fully understand in this world. Don’t ever underestimate the beauty and power of the witness you give in your pro-life work.”
-- Archbishop Charles Chaput

There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
-- Albert Einstein

I notice that all of the people who support abortion are already born.”
-- Ronald Reagan

The Church has never changed its teaching on the sanctity of human life - it didn't make up a rule for the convenience of a particular time like a rule at a country club as the Governor would have us believe.”
-- Wellington Mara

That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong.”
-- William J. H. Boetcker

The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.”
--Robert Louis Stevenson
