Pakistani girl to spend another week in prison before hearing on blasphemy charge : News Headlines - Catholic Culture

A strike by lawyers in Pakistan has added further complications to the legal case of Rimsha Masih, the mentally impaired Christian girl who has been jailed since August 16 on blasphemy charges.
A court in Islamabad has ruled that the girl must remain in prison until the end of this week, when a hearing will be held on an application to free her on bail.

In Pakistan, a controversial legal case has taken a spectacular turn, as an Islamic leader has been arrested for allegedly planting evidence of blasphemy on a mentally disabled Christian girl.
Imam Khalid Chishti is charged with inserting pages of the Qu’ran into a primer that Rimsha Masih had burned. The imam reportedly said that a blasphemy charge would be a “way of getting rid of Christians.”
